Production Method

Dissolve 218g of p-nitrobenzyl acetate in 500ml of hot methanol, stir, and slowly add 380g of 15% sodium hydroxide solution. After completion, let stand for 5 minutes, then pour into ice water to precipitate. The filtered precipitate is decolorized with activated carbon in hot water and recrystallized to obtain 110-121g of p-nitrobenzyl alcohol.
